Wake Up, The Time Is Near – News and Views From You

One of the inspirational books I read when I was younger was “God’s Smuggler”, the story of Brother Andrew, a Christian missionary behind the Iron Curtain in the 1950s. I recently picked up this book . I find there a heroic faith in the providence of God, to which responds the miraculous intervention of God.
I read a passage early in Brother Andrew’s search for his ministry in which he is appalled at the ignorance of the Bible and the person of Jesus among the young people he meets. The words reminded me of the account by someone I don’t remember meeting young people in California who had never heard of Jesus.
Now, I know there are a lot of people in this country who don’t know much about him, but at least they’ve heard his name, even to no avail.
Later, Andrew discovers behind the Iron, in places where churches are still tolerated, that young people no longer attend services. One grandma’s complaint when asked is that schools tell kids that old people aren’t educated in these things – please them by letting them do their thing (my wording), but” we know better, don’t we.”
It reminded me of the recent turmoil in parts of our country where educators operate under the belief that the government has the right to train children as they see fit, and that parents have no right to interfere.
The reason behind the tacitly tolerated anarchy in some of our big cities is that the problem is cultural and will not be solved by legal measures. This may be quite true…
A few years ago there was a push for new evangelization – to re-evangelize Christians whose catechesis may be lacking.
I remember my mother telling me that in polite society, two topics should be avoided in social situations – religion and politics. We Catholics don’t often delve into our discussions about our religion – after all, it’s “the priest’s job”. But I’m afraid that if my generation and yours don’t work to evangelize our children, they will be evangelized – by anti-Christian and anti-religious elements at work in our society.
Someone over there will call me a conspiracy theorist. Perhaps at this point the devil is the only conspirator; it still is. But just as God chose to work through people, so did Satan.
Any work of God must begin with prayer. “Except the Lord build the house, those who labor build in vain. And maybe prayer is the only option you see for yourself. Pray for your country. Pray for God’s will to be done, but know that this is not a cop-out prayer. Sometimes the scriptures are clear about the will of God. Praying for the specific will of God is always a good thing.
I feel like time is running out. In the past, when good people sat around and waited for someone else to stop the bad around them — well, they got Hitler. They had Lenin.
It is the Truth, not the gunshots, that sets a person free. The truth is in Christ. The truth is Christ. We must give Christ to the people of this country or lose him. Or lose them.
Rom.13:11: “And do this, understanding the present tense: the hour has already come for you to awake from your slumber because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
