Longtime FC resident veteran Michael Strickler dies
Michael Lewis Strickler died on May 25, 2021 at the age of 72. Mr. Strickler was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Teresa and Paul Strickler, the middle child of seven. He has lived all his life in Falls Church. Mr. Strickler was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, rock climbing and any other activity that took place outdoors. There was nothing better than riding your motorcycle or ATV, ending the day around a campfire, swapping stories with family and friends. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper and tank driver. Mr. Strickler was an active member of the Falls Church American Legion where he served on the board of directors as Sergeant-at-Arms. He has participated in the Legion Guard of Honor, including the annual Memorial Day activities at the Town of Falls Church. He also hosted an annual popular ax throwing tournament and built the targets himself. A jack of all trades, he ran his own tree service for many years. Mr. Strickler enjoyed singing karaoke at several local venues and by all accounts was very accomplished.
His parents, his wife Carol, his brother David, his sister-in-law Anne and his nephews, Jesse and Jason, preceded him in his death. Survivors include sister Joan Strickler Weeks (John), brothers Skip (Denise), Bobby, Kevin (Joyce) and Mark (Christina).
