Church Point mobile home burns down and the fire was started intentionally
CHURCH POINT, Louisiana (KLFY) – A Church Point man says a fire that burned down his mobile home was started intentionally.
“I literally watched it burn. I called 911, but by the time they arrived it was all gone,” said Nathan Joubert. Joubert, owner of the mobile home, says he was renting it to a mother and his son.
“Earlier today, I was talking to his mother. He and his mother started picking up all the trash in the yard. I told him if he didn’t, I was going to have to pay someone to do it. He got mad at his mum and slammed the door, so I left him alone and went to mind my business and do some other work,” he said.
He says he was working in the back of the mobile home park for a while when he saw his tenant’s son. “I was coming out of the trailer park and I see him go down the road. I wondered why he was running. I knew he and his mother were arguing. When I looked in the yard, I didn’t see his mother’s truck. The only thing I saw was a bunch of smoke coming out of the door,” he told News Ten. He says that at first only sofa was on fire. He tried to put it out with a hose, but the flames quickly increased.
Joubert says he learned how the fire started by talking to the woman who lived there. He says she told him her son asked for ten dollars, and when she said no, he became frustrated.
“He told his mother he was going to set the house on fire, and he did. They thought he was joking, but he did it,” Joubert said. having to demolish his mobile home, Joubert says he is always in a good mood.
“I would have given him ten dollars if he had asked me, if I had known this was all going to happen,” he laughed. Deputy state fire marshals were on scene while News Ten was there Thursday afternoon. We are told that they are carrying out this investigation.
