A Day Into Red Church Project: Construction Halted
St. James Episcopal Church
Sonora, California – Work on the Red Church project in Sonora just started last night, and it’s already stopped – thanks to Mother Nature.
Wet weather has forced United Pavement Maintenance crews out of Hughson to halt all work for the rest of the week as rain is also forecast for Thursday (4/21). The project aims to improve pedestrian access and flow at the three-way intersection of N. Washington Street/Highway 49, Elkin and Snell in front of the Saint James Episcopal Church project. The removal of trees, sidewalks and driveways, as well as grading, are among the work that will be carried out, as detailed here in a previous story. The project was scheduled for nighttime hours to have less impact on travelers in busy downtown Sonora. However, motorists will still face delays and possible detours.
Further details of any restrictions on motorists will be provided later this week by the contractor. Weather permitting, work should resume on Sunday evening, April 24 at 8 p.m.
